Here's a link to an exciting blog about Mathematics!

This blog is excellent! It provides many blog entries in many different parts of Mathematics. For example, it has entries that range from math applications to math education. It also has resources such as beneficial math websites and mathematics software. There are also tutorials for how to solve different math problems. I could go on and on about this website. I think that in the future when I'm teaching I will use this website for ideas on how to teach math in the classroom. For those of you who aren't going specifically for Mathematics, I think that this site would be beneficial for you to take a look at and maybe get some ideas for the classroom. Technology in Education
Here's an article about technology in the classroom for the New York Times...
Check It Out!
I feel that technology in the classroom is a good thing. As we know, students learn differently and using a piece of technology, like an iPad or a SMARTboard, might be the only way certain students are able to learn difficult concepts. Although I am a strong advocate, I don't think that technology should be the dominant way that students learn in the classroom. I think that technology can help enhance lessons and make them more authentic and meaningful, but this should be used only when necessary and appropriate. I just don't think something like a Kindle can replace the feeling that a student or adult gets from holding and reading a real book. In my area of study, which is Mathematics and Elementary Education, I think that something like a SMARTboard would be awesome to have in the classroom. From short videos I've watched and articles I've read, the possibilites for doing math with the SMARTboard seem endless. I also think that there are many great games that can be played using the SMARTboard that can enhance the learning experiences that students receive. I think that the future of technology in the classroom holds new and exciting things, but I don't want it to replace regular classroom instruction; however, I think that it can greatly enhance regular classroom instruction as well as the learning experiences of students when implemented properly.

My Teaching Philosophy
I feel that every child should be given the chance to succeed. As a future educator, I will do anything in my power to help students succeed and reach their goals. I also believe that as teachers it is our duty to prepare students for higher education and to show them the value of a good education. Without a good education in our society today, life can be very difficult. I also think that it is important to get to know each and every student so that teachers can provide their students with the most beneficial and meaning education possible. Lastly, it is most important to show students that we as teachers care about them and that we want them to perform well and succeed in everything that they do. By showing students that we care about them and their education, we can create lifelong learners who value education and see the power that it holds.
This Guy...
Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog. My name is Joshua Kollmann and I hail from Fond du Lac, WI. I'm currently working on getting my degree in Elementary Education with minors in both Math and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. Once I finish my degree, I hope to teach either 7th/8th grade math or 5th grade. I would like to teach in another state, preferably somewhere out West, but I would be content with a job in Wisconsin. With the little free time I have, I attend punk rock concerts with my punk rock friends, listen to punk rock, skateboard, play guitar, read books, work at Pick n' Save, and watch The History and Discovery Channel. Music is my passion. I love playing it, listening to it, and seeing it live. Some of my favorite bands include The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Cobra Skulls, Hot Water Music, The Holy Mess, Elway, and many, many more. Well, that's about all the interesting/important things about myself that I can think of. Hopefully this gives you some insight as to who I am and what I'm all about. Oh yeah, I guess I should mention this too--enjoy my blog.
