Technology in Education

Here's an article about technology in the classroom for the New York Times...

Check It Out!

I feel that technology in the classroom is a good thing. As we know, students learn differently and using a piece of technology, like an iPad or a SMARTboard, might be the only way certain students are able to learn difficult concepts. Although I am a strong advocate, I don't think that technology should be the dominant way that students learn in the classroom. I think that technology can help enhance lessons and make them more authentic and meaningful, but this should be used only when necessary and appropriate. I just don't think something like a Kindle can replace the feeling that a student or adult gets from holding and reading a real book. In my area of study, which is Mathematics and Elementary Education, I think that something like a SMARTboard would be awesome to have in the classroom. From short videos I've watched and articles I've read, the possibilites for doing math with the SMARTboard seem endless. I also think that there are many great games that can be played using the SMARTboard that can enhance the learning experiences that students receive. I think that the future of technology in the classroom holds new and exciting things, but I don't want it to replace regular classroom instruction; however, I think that it can greatly enhance regular classroom instruction as well as the learning experiences of students when implemented properly.
